Why are we there?

For Reconstruction:

Canada plays a key role in peace-keeping missions and in order to help their fellow allie the USA, Canadian troops are trying to do as much as possible to help train the Afghan troops to stand on their own. That way in future disputes NATO won't have to get involved. The Canadians are also there to re-build Afghanistan. They are supporting projects that will strengthen democratic development and build public institutions in Afghanistan. The reality is there can be no progress in this "rebuilding of the nation" without security. The Canadian forces are helping to create a secure environment where good governance and development can be promoted and sustained.

Canada directly supports the establishment of 4,000 community-based schools and training of 9,000 teachers as well as helping women develop home-based gardens. Not only have Canadians helped with the overall appearance in Afghanistan but they are helping with the overall health of Afghanistan by providing access to basic medical care decreasing the infant mortality rate. Canadians are also supporting the Womens Rights Fund in Afghanistan where they attempt to fix the overwhelming human rights issues. One of Canada's six priorites in Afghanistan is to help the Afghan government provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people including refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons. Overall, Canadians seem to be making a huge effort in increasing the governance and development within the Kandahr province and it is showing significantly.
